Recent case from Turkey (2025): A warning sign for prospective buyers!
The media is currently reporting on the corrective surgery that has begun to address a botched cosmetic procedure performed on influencer Gina.Lisa Lohfink. (Current sources: see above.)
What started as a dream ended in a nightmare!
As early as the beginning of 2025, Turkish media reported on the case of a well-known influencer who had undergone an aquafilling procedure in Turkey to enhance the size of her buttocks.
In the months following the procedure, the following occurred:
• severe pain
• recurrent infections
• migration of the filler material to other parts of the body (including the upper body)
• multiple surgical procedures without complete removal of the material
The woman in question is now publicly warning others about Aquafill® and recounting her years-long medical ordeal.
Watch “Schreiben und Zeigen” (RTL “Exclusiv,” Jan. 18, 2026) for the full story.
➡️ This case is representative of numerous similar reports from around the world.
⸻
Why is Aquafill® particularly problematic in the buttocks?
The gluteal region is:
• subject to significant mechanical stress (sitting, movement)
• rich in blood vessels and nerves
• prone to material migration
A permanent filler such as Aquafill® can spread uncontrollably in the tissue—even years after injection.
⸻
Common complications following Aquafill® buttock augmentation
1. Inflammation and granulomas
• Chronic sterile inflammation
• Painful hardening
• Visible deformities
2. Infections
• Abscesses
• Fistula formation
• Biofilm infections (difficult to treat)
3. Migration of the filler
• Spread to:
• Thighs
• Groin area
• Lower back or abdominal area
• Increasing asymmetry
4. Tissue damage
• Necrosis
• Skin perforations
• Permanent soft tissue defects
5. Chronic pain
• Pain when sitting
• Neuropathic symptoms
• Significant impairment of quality of life
⸻
Why Aquafill® is virtually impossible to remove completely
❌ Aquafill® is not enzymatically degradable
❌ Complete surgical removal is usually not possible
Common consequences:
• multiple surgeries
• long-term antibiotic treatment
• permanent scars and defects
⸻
Aquafill® Abroad – An Underestimated Risk
Many patients undergo Aquafill® treatments abroad, for example in Turkey, often for financial reasons. The problems with this include:
• unclear product composition
• lack of long-term information
• difficulties with follow-up care in their home country, which they must pay for themselves.
➡️ Complications often don’t become apparent until months or years later.
⸻
Which alternatives are safer?
The following procedures are now considered standard for aesthetic buttock augmentation:
• Autologous fat transfer (Brazilian Butt Lift) performed under strict safety standards
• Buttock implants in select cases
Both methods require:
• a detailed medical consultation
• a medical indication
• experienced surgeons
Nevertheless, surgery on the buttocks always carries a risk, particularly because of their unique anatomy and the high concentration of bacteria in the immediate vicinity.
⸻
Conclusion: A clear warning against Aquafill® and “mixed” fillers
The use of Aquafill® for buttock augmentation carries significant risks.
Recent cases—such as the report from Turkey in 2025—show that complications can be severe, long-lasting, and often impossible to fully treat.
Mixing it with your own fat is completely pointless.
Our clear recommendation:
Avoid permanent fillers in the buttocks area and seek comprehensive advice on safe alternatives.
Cheap surgeries abroad that use methods banned here are not only life-threatening—you’ll also have to pay for the corrective procedures yourself!
