Botox

Botox is the abbreviation for botulinum toxin, which in the last few years has become a favourite among all women who suffer from facial wrinkling. The medicine has been applied very successfully to eye wrinkles and forehead and mouth folds. The substance is injected into the affected region and only takes a few minutes. The effect develops slowly and produces meaningful changes day-by-day, beginning after 2-3 days and reaching an optimal result after 5-10 days. The treatment can be repeated after 5-10 months.

Botox operates at the interface between neurons and muscle cells, inhibiting transmission and hence the contractions of the affected muscles which are responsible for the wrinkling. The impact of these muscle contractions are particularly recognisable for wrinkles which arise through frowning.

In the meantime, within the group of botulinum toxins, two new medicines have been applied. One of these two substances has a lower protein content which significantly reduces the danger of allergy. Treatment with Botox at regular intervals with a timely start can preserve a youthful and fresh look for more than ten years, and postpone a planned face lift by many years.

To date, botulinum toxins have been extensively researched, not only with regard to their mode of action but also with regard to possible side effects and may definitely be applied on a permanent basis. This therapeutic possibility against facial wrinkling has already been used very successfully for many years on both men and women.
