Upper arm lift
It frequently occurs as a result of rapid weight reduction that fatty tissue is reduced and the skin above it appears to be “too big”. While excess skin tissue normally shrinks within a few weeks, depending on the individual condition of the patient, this may or may not occur, with this again depending on age, since the weakening of connective tissue and slackening of skin is evidently a consequence of the natural ageing process. Cellulite may occur.
The upper arms may also be affected by this, but by virtue of upper arm lifting, pendulous skin on the arms has become a thing of the past.
Most patients undergo an upper arm lifting after extreme loss of weight.
The operation is preceded by an in depth advisory discussion. The operation lasts for around two hours for both arms and takes place under a general anaesthetic. An incision is made in the armpit.
Excess fatty tissue and skin is removed on the inner side of the upper arm at most as far as the elbow. The wound is closed with inset stitches. This operation requires an overnight inpatient stay. For around three days, the patient must wear a wrap bandage.
Patients must refrain from sport or heavy lifting during the first four weeks after the operation. Direct exposure to sunlight and solariums should also be avoided until full healing has occurred.
