Tightening operations
Sharp variations in weight, particularly when a lot of weight is rapidly lost, causes slack, pendulous skin. This is frequently also the case after pregnancy but also as a result of the natural ageing process. Superfluous tissue normally shrinks, but the shrinkage is also dependent on age, sportiness and with the form of the changes in weight.
Connective tissue becomes weaker and the skin droops. In women, the most frequently affected problem zones are the belly, bottom and legs, but tightening of skin on the upper arms may also be necessary. In men, the problem areas are usually the belly and the bottom.
In a skin tightening operation, the skin is tightened and superfluous skin removed. During the operation, the surgeon goes deep into the fatty tissue in order to ensure the lasting success of the tightening. The operation is carried out under a general anaesthetic and is associated with an inpatient stay of around a week.
Bandages are applied after the operation. The healing phase lasts for several weeks, during which the patient should refrain from sport and other strenuous bodily activities at all costs. Skin tightening is often carried out after liposuction if the excess skin does not shrink of its own accord.
Tightening achieves a lasting smoothing of the tissues with a silhouette which is again smooth and well proportioned.
